Publix #628 (Bayshore Blvd) - Tampa, FL

Welcome to another edition of Publix stores by GTB Retail! This time, we will be looking at the store on Bayshore Blvd and Platt Street.

This is also the final post of 2019.

This is the last traffic light before you cross the Hillsborough River. This light is for Ashley Drive.

Let’s make a left turn in order to go to Downtown Tampa’s first Publix!

Publix #628
243 Bayshore Blvd, Tampa, FL

Opened in 1998 as one of the first smaller format Publix stores in the area. This store model is the older 28M.

Publix #628 is 28,357 square feet and used to have a pharmacy until the mid-2000's.

Welcome to the Publix near Downtown Tampa! The other Publix in the Channel Club Apartments did not open until 2019, so residents living at or near those apartments and wanting to find a Publix would have to drive here or walk down to the 1st floor.

This is also the primary Publix for Gasparilla, which happens in January and February.

A Publix Delivery section and what looks to be books and magazines, placed in the former pharmacy.

Aisle 1 is in a split formation with regular groceries and the deli and bakery departments. This layout is nearly similar to Publix #28 (current location) in Saint Petersburg.

The deli is to the left, and the remainder of grab and go is to the right of aisle 1.

You can see how this store has primary aisles (2 to 9) and the secondary wine aisles. Again, this is a small format Publix!

The wine aisles are unnumbered, as in a situation similar to a Publix (former Albertsons) in Jacksonville, which also has secondary aisles.

Meat department signage, and one of the coolers placed below the service window.

Signage for aisle 3 in Publix #628 and a part of the checkouts.

This is a big sign for a produce department inside a Publix supermarket!

From produce, here are the remaining three aisles inside this small format Publix in Tampa.

Floral is located along a part of aisle 9, along with frozen foods. Aisle signage is shown above.

Looking down aisle 9, which is the last aisle in the store and in the frozen foods department.

Checkouts 3 to 7 in the store are original.

These express lanes were added by Publix, which increases the checkout count to 10 from 9.

Thank you for shopping at Publix #628!

You can even see Downtown Tampa and the Crosstown Expressway (SR 618) from this Publix!

And as a side note, blogging will not resume until after January 6th due to Christmas and New Year’s.

See you in 2020!
