BEYOND FLORIDA: GTB Retail Goes to Kroger!
KR
Welcome to 2021! In this edition of "GTB Retail's Beyond Florida", we are going to Savannah, Georgia where the first Kroger store on the blog is featured!
Kroger #645
5720 Ogeechee Rd, Savannah, GA
Savannah is the oldest city in the state of Georgia and is the county seat of Chatham County, being established in 1733. Savannah is Georgia's fifth-largest city with an estimated population of 144,464 in 2019. The metropolitan area's population in 2019 was 393,353.
This Kroger store on US 17 and Berwick Road opened in 2005 and is 70,384 square feet in size.

Before we enter the store, here is a daytime image of the the Berwick Kroger's exterior.
These pictures were taken from various sources, including Kroger's website (KR), Foursquare (FSQ), Google Maps (GMAP), and Riley C. (RC)

Even though that I do not have a picture of the welcome sign (Welcome to your Savannah Kroger), this Kroger shopping cart substitutes that.
FSQ
Stepping inside, we can see Kroger's Bountiful interior and layout, which was added in January 2013 replacing the Script interior. Even the layout of floral is very similar to a modern 45M Publix!
GMAP
Approaching the deli and bakery, which we will have a look at first...

An example of Kroger's Bountiful interior signage, this one is for the deli department.

What I call a deli lightbox, this décor element was introduced in Kroger's 2009 to 2016 remodels.

Salads and entrees are featured in this section of Kroger's deli.

This Starbucks café is either original to the store or was added in the 2013 remodel.

One more look at deli items before we advance to other parts of the store...

Overhead signs for beer/wine and lunch meats. A part of the meat/seafood sign is visible if you zoom in and look at the letter H.

The beer and wine department, which was relocated from aisles 20/21 to the former natural foods section in 2018/2019.

And now for a look at Kroger's produce section!

Returning to the front end, grocery aisles 10 to 21 are to the right of this picture.
FSQ
Located on aisle 10, don't forget to grab some pancake mix if you are hungry for some morning breakfast!
In November 2020, the picture to the left of the word Aunt was removed after 31 years.
GMAP
Aisle 13, which consists of mostly household supplies and cleaners.

Now to the greeting cards and party aisle, number 15.
GMAP
The Kroger pharmacy, which also features a drive-thru outside!
GMAP
Approaching the front end checkouts, with 12 regular lanes and 6 self-checkouts.

One last look at the grocery aisles (and number 12!) before we leave Kroger's.

Thanks for shopping at your Savannah Kroger!

The Kroger gas station, located separate from the main store and right next to a McDonald's restaurant.

These new pumps (Wayne Ovation) were added in March 2018 to replace older Wayne Fueling Systems gas pumps from 2005.

This photo from March 2018 shows the installation of the new gas pumps and an extra ethanol-free line.
Nice stuff. Kroger definitely makes the conventional grocery experience look attractive.
ReplyDeleteI do want to note about the Starbucks kiosk - that was a fairly common structure of theirs in the 2000s. It's likely been reskinned over the years, as I've seen at other stores.
