GTB Retail's 5th Anniversary: Grocery Stores with Reused Interiors

On this 5th anniversary of the GTB Area Retail Blog, we are going to look at 2 locally owned grocery stores in the Tampa Bay Area that happen to have reused interiors from former supermarkets. All photos are courtesy of Google Maps.

Brandon Meats & Market
247 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL

Opened in 2014. This building was formerly Dockside Imports and a mattress store.

This exterior photo from 2017 shows the original sign at the front of the building.

In 2018, a new sign was installed. Otherwise, the building looks the same as it did in 2017.

At the entrance, we can clearly see how this store utilizes a mixture of signage from Publix and the former Sweetbay Supermarket.

Here's another look at the Publix/Sweetbay combination interior that this store is using. The "Fresh Dairy" sign is from the first Sweetbay interior used from 2004 to 2013. The "Beef" and "Pork" category signs are from the most recent Sweetbay interior used in 2013 and 2014. The aisle signs are from Publix's Kiwi interior.

This store's produce department is named "Harvest Market" which comes from Sweetbay as well.

In this photo, you can see that the category signs in the Publix aisle markers do not match on both sides.

The store's meat counter is located at the right rear of the store. The overhead "Butcher Shop" signs is also from the Sweetbay V2 interior, as indicated by the fonts.

Heading into aisle 2, the Sweetbay signage continues with these hanging posters.

The Publix Kiwi aisle signs and Sweetbay posters seen from the rear end of the store. One of the posters has the word "For Less", which matched Sweetbay's slogan at the time (Live Fresh For Less)

Looking at aisle 5, which has household products. Not shown are the disposable diapers since those are on the other side of this aisle. The frozen foods sign can also be seen here.

At the left front of the store, we can see that there are only a total of 8 grocery aisles.

Since this is the last interior photo of Brandon Meats & Market, let's jump on over to Village Meats & Market!

Village Meats & Market
5537 S. 78th St., Tampa, FL

Opened in 2009. This store utilizes signage from Albertsons' Tropical Broadway and Grocery Palace interiors from a former location, which you will see in the next photo.

Here's the reused Albertsons interior that I mentioned earlier. The department signs do not have the Albertsons icon, while the aisle signs have them. This store also has a total of 10 aisles, which is 2 aisles more than what was in Brandon Meats & Market.

Produce is the first department seen after entering. Also, I'm not sure why there is a dairy sign above the coolers that have sausage in it.

Our last look at produce, from the side of aisle 1.

Aisle 4 has canned foods. Soup and rice are not listed although those products are in this aisle.

Aisle 6 has oriental foods and drinks.

The combined meat and seafood counters in the store. The meat area also has posters that advertises their 4 family bundles.

Back at the front of the store, let's checkout and conclude this 5th anniversary blog post!

  1. Wow, very cool stuff here! It's always neat to see recycled grocery décor, especially when it's combined with other different packages. Congrats on five years!
