The Closing of Winn-Dixie #676 - Brandon, FL

Florida Choice/Winn-Dixie #676
179 E. Bloomingdale Ave, Brandon, FL - Bloomingdale Plaza

Opened in 1987 as a Florida Choice supermarket, originally proposed as a Family Mart before A&P sold this store to Kroger. Florida Choice had a rather short run here, closing a year later. In 1992, this store was sold to Winn-Dixie and reopened as Winn-Dixie #676, replacing an older 1975-built store at the Kings Row Shopping Center (843 W. Bloomingdale Ave). That store is currently Big Lots #560.

This store received an inexpensive remodel to the transformational interior in 2014. Winn-Dixie closed this store on March 25, 2019 after 27 years in operation.

The outside is from the 2014 remodel, but the original entryway remains!

UPDATE: After being vacant for 3 years, the former Winn-Dixie space is now an Urban Air Adventure Park, which opened on September 24, 2022.

Not in use during this time, was the left side entry door. The sign says "Please Use Other Door" with an arrow pointing to the right.

The deli prep area was closed when these photos were taken.

Looking from the empty deli prep area, we can see Marketplace diamonds on the wall! The Marketplace interior was used from 1987 to 1999.

"Freshly Baked" is the baked goods department.

Meat, seafood, and aisle signage.

"Freshly Caught" and Fisherman's Wharf are the seafood departments.

Closeup of Winn-Dixie's transformational decor aisle signage. Between early 2012 and late 2013, BI-LO Holdings (the former name of Southeastern Grocers) announced remodels of old stores like this one. Eventually, Winn-Dixie put new signage on the walls and left traces of the Marketplace interior intact.

Aisle 6.

Unmarked aisles 7 and 8 are frozen foods aisles. Original flooring from 1992 can be seen in the aisles!

Aisle 9 is the first aisle seen after frozen foods.

Is this original Marketplace health and beauty flooring?

Aisle 14.

From aisle 15, this is the other section of dairy.

Aisle 15, which is dairy products, is in a double-wide aisle configuration that is common in Marketplace-era Winn-Dixie's. A double-wide aisle is 2 aisles in one.

Remember these restroom corridors? This can be seen in older Winn-Dixie's like these!

No pharmacists are currently on duty.

A look at the empty pharmacy department.

The store's 8 total checkouts. (2 to 8 are shown)

Low Prices, Every Day. Is this also from the original checkouts?
