A Retro Publix in Miami Beach! (Store #91)

(All photos except the last are courtesy of Google Maps)

Publix #91
1045 Dade Blvd, Miami Beach, FL.

Opened on April 23, 1963 as a Publix Wing Store and is one of the last in the chain that has never expanded or remodeled in the Miami area. Even though that this might not be the oldest Publix in the chain, it's 3 years ahead of store #50, which opened in 1959!

Coexists with another Publix (store 621, opened 1998) 0.4 miles to the west.

You can't get any classic Publix like this! 1960's-style letters and the winged exterior!

Store 91 is 24,000 square feet, while store 621 (multi-level) is 54,295 square feet.

This ATM machine was added between the late 1980's and the early 1990's, as there were no Presto ATMs before 1984.

Publix, where shopping has been a pleasure since 1930! This sign seen above the entrance is original to the store's 1963 opening.

Immediately after entering the store, we get our first glimpse of the first 5 aisles. Because this is a 1960's Publix, the aisle count tops out at 9.

As with all 1960's to 1980's Publix stores, dairy is located along aisle 1.

An example of dairy products that can be found in Publix stores is milk!

Looking towards the rear of the store. Meats are located to the right, while grocery aisles are to the left.

This is aisle 5, which indicates the middle of the store due to the terrazzo being shaped into a chevron pattern.

Moving away from aisle 5, here are some more aisle signage for sections 6 to 9!

Aisle 7.

The deli is located to the right of aisle 9 and frozen foods. The layout in store 91 is either original to 1963 or was reconfigured in the 1980's/1990's.

Comment below if you know the exact layout of these Publix wing stores.

Aisle 9 is the last aisle to have it's original flooring from 1963.

Produce must have been a later addition, as the flooring switches from terrazzo to tile.

This must have been some extra storage space for the backrooms before produce moved into its place.

About to approach the front end, but what do I see to the right of that flower display?

Publix's floral department! I don't think that this was here in 1962, so it was either an addition or was empty space, similar to produce.

In Publix #91, there are a total of 6 checkouts with five regular lanes and one express.

From checkout 3, here is a view towards customer service.

The monument sign (term for signs facing the road) was a later addition somewhere in the 1990's.
