Walmart #5760 (Kennedy Blvd) - Tampa, FL

Winn-Dixie #675/SaveRite #2661/Walmart #5760
1601 W. Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL

Originally opened as Winn-Dixie #675 in December 1996. At 62,000 square feet, this was one of the larger 3rd generation Marketplace stores, and also featured a food pavilion with one-stop shopping. Winn-Dixie would later close on May 21, 2000 as part of a closing wave that affected 114 stores, which included 5 in the Tampa Bay Area. After almost 3 years of vacancy, this Winn-Dixie would reopen as SaveRite #2661 on April 18, 2003, in which a new liquor store was added. SaveRite lasted until 2005, when this and 256 other Winn-Dixie's closed due to the company's first bankruptcy. This store would sit vacant for a second time until Walmart opened Neighborhood Market #5760 on October 15, 2008.

The exterior is original, but not the layout of the doors. Also, when this Walmart opened it would have featured the older WAL*MART logo from 1992 even though that the company introduced a newer logo earlier in 2008. This store got it's most recent remodel in 2016.

The leftmost side of the store, showing the liquor store (which was added by SaveRite in 2003), and Walmart's pharmacy text.

Walmart takes up the entire 62,000 square feet of this former Winn-Dixie, which makes this one of the largest Neighborhood Market stores in Florida. Normally, Walmart Neighborhood Market's are sized between 40,000 and 45,000 square feet.

Let's enter through these doors to see what a large Neighborhood Market is all about!

Here is Walmart's rather spacious produce department. Next to that is packaged deli foods.

Also, I see an error on one of the produce tables, cucumbers (or another green-colored produce item) should not be 88 dollars, more like 88 cents!

And here is the deli in this Neighborhood Market, which is a full-service counter unlike some of the later-built stores.

This store does not have a full-service bakery, opting for a selection of baked goods instead.

Next to the deli, we find the store's meat department.

Aisles A28 to A41 are to my left, while dairy is to my right. If this were Winn-Dixie, then the current location of dairy would have been meats and seafood.

Since this is an unusually large Neighborhood Market, this store has a total of 41 aisles which translates to 20 if you count each one by itself. This is also the most amount of grocery aisles that I have seen in any Walmart.

This Walmart, like many other Neighborhood Markets use a split aisle configuration which can be seen here.

The pharmacy department, which occupies a part of Winn-Dixie's former bakery and beer/wine space.

Walmart's pickup and service counter along with a part of checkout lane 1.

Only the checkout lane lights are original from when this store had the Futura interior.

A photo of the exit doors might mean that we are done touring this Neighborhood Market, but we are actually not done yet!

After leaving Walmart, I found an older style Wendy's restaurant! Wendy's opened in 1998, making this a later addition to the plaza. There is also a nearby KFC/Taco Bell combination restaurant that opened in 1999.

And the road sign facing Kennedy Blvd, which appears to be original from Winn-Dixie.
