Publix #1808 - Tampa, FL

Publix #1808
3617 W. Gandy Blvd, Tampa, FL - Gandy Shopping Center

This Publix opened on March 2, 2023, as a replacement for store #310. That store existed for 35 years from November 23, 1986, to November 6, 2021.

This is the third Publix to be built in this part of Gandy Boulevard after stores 23 and 310. Store 23 was an art deco Publix from 1954 to November 22, 1986, and is currently the site of a Starbucks that opened in 2006. Store 310 was built on a large plot of land adjacent to store 23. There is also a Publix at the River Bridge Centre in Greenacres (opened July 30, 1987) that reuses store number 23 from the first Gandy Publix.

Here are the entrance doors with a newer version of the Evergreen information signs on both sides.

Welcome to Publix #1808, featuring a new style of welcome sign from the Evergreen interior!

I can also see two differences in the shopping carts and self-checkout signage: The Wanzl 4140W carts have cup holders due to the store's presence of a Pours bar. If you zoom in to the right of the red poster, you can see an Evergreen-style express lane graphic on an NCR self-checkout sign frame. I haven't seen an updated style of self-checkout signage at other Publix locations so they must be new to this store.

There are a total of 9 self-checkouts including 4 express lanes. Floral is located next to them.

Stepping inside, we can see that Publix #1808 has a dedicated popcorn section! This is one of the new features in the 55M layout.

I didn't get as many pictures of this store since it was crowded, but not like a grand opening!

Here are two types of signs in Publix #1808: aisle 16 and the pharmacy. The aisle signs are in a new Evergreen design with the numbers in the same font as the welcome sign, while the pharmacy signage is unchanged.

Even with the new 55M layout in place, the location of the pharmacy is still the same.

One of my favorite parts of the 55M Publix stores is the elevator that takes you upstairs to the second floor. This is a Schindler 3300.

Here is the hallway that leads you to the secondary restroom found upstairs. This hallway is larger than what I have seen in the 48M model Publix stores.

Heading outside, here is a look at the Publix liquor store. When this picture was taken, the liquor store was not open to the public.

And lastly, this is the road sign for Publix #1808 facing Himes Avenue, which also uses the faux brick texture as seen in the exterior of the main store.
