The Two Apollo Beach Winn-Dixie's and Mira Bay Village

After taking a Hawaii trip to Walgreens, we are back in Florida for a look at the two Apollo Beach Winn-Dixie stores! First, we will start with the old store.

Former Winn-Dixie #673
6188 North US Highway 41, Apollo Beach, FL

Winn-Dixie #673 opened in 1998 as a replacement for a former Winn-Dixie located where the Publix is at now. This store received it's only remodel around 2010, which might have moved the entrance and exit doors, but I am unsure. Closed on April 30, 2018 after 20 years in operation. The store currently sits vacant after Southeastern Grocers declared bankruptcy.

After looking at the old Winn-Dixie, we are now at the relocation/replacement store, a former Sweetbay Supermarket, but the tour does not start here.

Located next to the Winn-Dixie, is the battle of the two Marco's, pizza versus nails!

Sweetbay Supermarket #1963/Winn-Dixie #2527
252 Harbor Village Lane, Apollo Beach, FL - Mira Bay Village

Opened in 2008 as Sweetbay Supermarket #1963, and reopened in 2014 as Winn-Dixie #2527.

Red paint means a Down Down remodel was complete! This also caused a replacement of every Winn-Dixie sign outside and inside the store.

Welcome to your Mira Bay Winn-Dixie!

These Sweetbay stores have two sections of produce, and a small floral department located next to the section named fruit & vegetables.

Winn-Dixie's bakery department, which is also the home of the 2019, 2018, and 2017 National Pie Contest winners!

Department signage for the deli department to meats, along with a look at the wine signage. I would call this an overview of a part of the store.

Added in the 2018 remodel is an internet cafe/dining area! It is small with only 8 places to sit, and not like the stores in Jacksonville and Hyde Park.

Is this a Deli Kitchen, or Deli and The Kitchen? Located after the bakery in store 2527.

The wine and beer aisles are separate from the ones in the main store.

Beverages, complete with it's own sign? Now that's Winn-Dixie for you! Aisle 1 is also the first numbered grocery aisle in the store.

Signage for meats and seafood. The greeting cards were blocking my view of this section, so I had to reach up and take a picture.

Aisle 7.

The left center aisle facing towards the pharmacy. One thing that I like about these Sweetbay stores is you can peek inside the liquor store without going in!

New end caps for health and beauty in Down Down 2.0 remodels only.

Lucky 7's, home to the 2 for $7 deals at Winn-Dixie. Someone who would shop here would say: "Look at all of these deals!"

Down Down has evolved into in-store advertising, and not like 2016, where there were big red balloons and lots of Down Down signage.

Aisle 13 begins the frozen foods section in the store. The pharmacy is straight ahead at the end of aisle 13.

One section of aisle 14 is home to chilled beer. You can find all other types of spirits at the Liquor Store. Chilled versus Cold: Nearly the same thing?

The dairy and frozen foods section of aisle 14.

One last look at the pharmacy and beauty departments before we check out.

The checkouts are going up to lane number 5 in this Winn-Dixie. I don't know what happened to lane 6.

The four self checkouts are technically lanes 7 to 10 in the store, but this would be four lane one's!

Instead of checkout countdown, we have increasing checkouts from 2 to 5!

Thank you for shopping at your Mira Bay Winn-Dixie!

Do you want to know what Southeastern Grocers City is? AFB thought that it was a grocery delivery service, instead, it's a refrigeration company for all of SEG's stores!

This Winn-Dixie even has a pharmacy drive-thru, all thanks to Sweetbay Supermarket!

Let's jump to Kimi's for some ice cream!

Kimi's Ice Cream and Sweets - Apollo Beach
143 Harbor Village Lane, Apollo Beach, FL - Mira Bay Village

Opened in 2013 as the first Kimi's to open in Florida. The second location is in the Boyette area, and opened in 2018.

Let's enter through these doors for a quick peek inside!

After checking out the two Winn-Dixie's in that area, and having a side of Kimi's, this blog post is finished!

  1. I like Down Down décor anyway, but I think it looks particularly good here because it doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling. Helps break up all the red a bit.

  2. The Down Down decor looks much better in stores with the open ceiling, as the red doesn't feel as overwhelming. And I never would have thought those trucks were for SEG's private refrigeration company!
