Walmart Week, Part 1 - Supercenter #4681 - Tampa, FL

Walmart #4681
4302 W. Gandy Blvd, Tampa, FL.

Hello and welcome to the first post of Walmart Week! From April 13 to April 21, we will be posting photos about Walmart stores, from discount stores to superstores!

This is Walmart #4681, which opened in 2010 after being proposed as a Neighborhood Market. This store also faced competition from a nearby Sweetbay Supermarket (later Winn-Dixie #2417) until 2018. This store is about 147,704 square feet in size.

This post will be subdivided into two parts, starting with my 2016 visit:

Project Impact 2.0, which is the interior used from grand opening (2010) to May 2018.

This is signage for aisles 3 and 4 in the store.

The separation between the express and regular checkouts are visible here. Note that there were about 22 checkouts before the addition of self lanes in the remodel.

2010 to present Walmart checkout sign. There is no longer a checkout 2 as an express lane, as former lane 13 is currently lane 2.

That was the 2016 set of photos, let's jump to 2018 for the finished remodel project!

You may notice that these photos were taken with a different camera (Samsung versus iPad), so the quality in this set may be better than the last.

There are Black Decor 2.2 signs outside of the store, in Walmart's new corporate font.

But as you head inside, you can see Black Decor 2.1, the predecessor's interior.

One of the hints in 2.1 vs 2.2 is the font used in the store maps and departments.

Welcome, enter here! There are also sanitizing wipes before you enter through the sales floor.

Immediately after you enter the store, you can see customer service to your right. Pickup and layaway remains in the back of the store near electronics.

An overview of the store after you pass customer service. Groceries are straight ahead, and the checkouts (out of frame) is to the left of that low price sign.

Walmart must have been transitioning from Black 2.1 to 2.2 in this store, because of the deli sign's font.

Grocery aisles 18 to 22 (9 to 11), although aisle 24 (or aisle 12) is not pictured. Note that these photos were taken in May 2018, 5 months before the new yellow aisle signs were introduced.

This is Section 1 of the grocery aisles, Section 2 is the final 4 grocery aisles.

The distinctive curved shape of the pharmacy is from this store's days with Impact 2.0 All that Walmart did was remove the old signage and place the new ones in a square.

I took this picture because the numbers for aisle 15 (30/31) is backwards!

Looking towards the electronics section of the store, as noted with the headphones on top of the word Entertainment. If you zoom in where the restroom sign is located, that is a Wheelock fire alarm speaker.

Also, the auto care section does not have a dedicated repair shop, it is auto supplies instead.

Straight ahead is the garden center. Because the garden center is completely separate from the main store, Walmart decided to keep the Enter and Exit signs from 2010!

Former checkout 22 is currently lane 11, with a 10 item limit for the express lanes.

Another similar sign for lane 9 (former lane 20), without the Speedy Checkout letters.

Now. here are the actual checkouts, with lane 7 (former #18) being first in this picture.

The Scan & Go lanes take up the space of former checkouts 1 to 12. Due to the remodel, lane 13 got renumbered into lane 1.

Thank you for shopping at your local Walmart!

This is one of two thank you signs in the store, the other is a thank you for shopping (city name) variation.

The first set of exit doors once you leave the store. Above the theft protection system to your right is the welcome sign, placed to the right of the exit doors.

We now conclude this tour of a mini Walmart Supercenter in Tampa! Part 2 will be another Super Walmart in a different state, so come back in two days to find out what store it is!

  1. The former decor shown here was actually Impact 2.0., given the store opened in 2010. It is almost identical to v1.0 except the secondary signs had cutout sparks instead of solid yellow ones, and was used from late 2008 to early 2009. v2.0 was used from mid 2009 to mid 2011 before being replaced by the cheaper v3.0.
