Walmart Week, Part 2 - Supercenter #308 - Manchester, TN

In part 2 of Walmart Week, we will be taking a road trip to Manchester, Tennessee, which is a city in Coffee County, and is located halfway between Chattanooga and Nashville. The population in 2018 was 10,916.

Ready to hop on this DeLorean and go 88 mph to a Tennessee Walmart?

After you leave Georgia on Interstate 75, you can see a Tennessee welcome sign 2 miles before the split with Interstate 24.

Let’s make this left on Interstate 75 to go to Walmart!

Something that our Floridians don’t see every day: Mountains!

Walmart #308
2518 Hillsboro Blvd, Manchester, TN.

This store is 155,744 square feet, and opened in 2001.

308 is probably a reused store number from the 1970's, so I do not know if there was a Walmart with store number 308 before this one opened.

The current exterior look of the store, after the 2014 remodel to Impact 3.0.

Entering through these doors to walk through the grocery department and other areas of the store...

Welcome to Walmart!

Impact 2.0 and 3.0 use flat signs instead of the pillow shaped ones used in version 1.

Walmart's produce department taken on the 4th of July 2018!

Grocery aisle signs for aisles 8 to 28, or 4 to 14.

If you want to go to the pharmacy or the auto center, continue straight ahead. If you want to go to electronics or Order Pickup, turn right.

Purple Walmart checkout signs? This must have been a variation of the red ones used until Black Decor 1.0. Notice the newer Speedy Checkout signs for lanes 13 and 14.

Thank you for shopping at Walmart #308 in Tennessee!

Even though that this might be the last of the Walmart pictures, there is actually more to come, from the 2001 interior to the 2009 remodel!

2001 INTERIOR:

I found these photos from a Flickr link, here is what the store would have looked like from it’s 2001 opening to 2009.

I am calling this interior "Futura 1.0" after the name of the font used throughout the store's signage.

Overhead signs for the bakery department.

A combined view of the rest of the bakery and a part of seafood.

1990's aisle signage for a store that opened in 2001!

Zoomed in perspective of the front end. This 1990's decor lasted for 8 years before Wal-Mart decided to remodel the store again to Futura 2.0!

2009 REMODEL:

Jumping ahead to the 2009 remodel of the store. Note that all pictures were taken from various Flickr links, and is approximate to store 308 in Tennessee, except that 308 had "Market & Pharmacy" instead of just Market.

Note that Walmart's spark logo debuted in 2008, but would not come to store 308 until 2014.

After entering through the grocery doors, a Welcome to the Market sign is placed above the low prices section.

Signage for aisles 3 to 14 in the store. I remember in 2013 when a Walmart in Sun City Center had this same interior from it's 2007 opening. Now you will find Impact 3.0 for the interior.

I believe that this dairy section would be considered a part of unmarked aisle 15 (or 30/31 in the modern numbering format)

A look down aisle 15, split between milk and other dairy products.

Assorted Cheese is also a part of the dairy department, in this separate section.

One of the last items in the dairy department is yogurt!

On to the prepackaged and packaged meats section, with the sign reading Beef, Chicken & Pork.

Signage for the seafood department.

Now this is a full service bakery, as opposed to the pre-2010's Neighborhood Market stores!

In those stores, bread was the only item found in the small deli and bakery, but not this superstore!

Let’s turn around and head to the electronics section, filled with televisions, phones, and gaming systems (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, etc.)

In the 1990’s and 2000's stores, order pickup is combined with the restrooms in the back.

During the holidays, this section is used for layaway.

Located after the electronics section, you will see this corridor that leads you to the pharmacy.

Pharmacy signage, which the actual counter was closed during the time that this picture was taken.

Heading to the front end of the store, where the checkouts are straight ahead...

If you enter through the left side (Home & Living), immediately to the right you will see the store’s vision center.

Overhead signs for the restrooms, which feels like 2004 because of the Stone Sans font being used.

Off to customer service! This area is used for returns, exchanges, and money orders.

A distinctive feature of the 1990’s and 2000's stores was the Game Play area being shared with the nail salon.

The inside of the small game room. There are about 5 games in Walmart compared to the hundreds that you will find in entertainment centers like Dave & Busters, Chuck E. Cheese, etc.

To the left of the game room was the store’s portrait studio used until 2014.

Beyond the store, there's a Subway for fast food restaurants! One of my local Walmart stores opened in 2006 had a McDonald's restaurant.

Even though that this is the left side entrance (home & living), this photo was probably taken for the giant light above the entrance doors.

Next in Walmart Week, we will be going back to Florida for a store in Hernando County.

More Walmart stores coming up in two days!
