A Modern Winn-Dixie - Tampa, FL (CVS included!)
(Post updated on January 13, 2025 now with additional and updated information from the Albertsons Florida Blog)
Kash n' Karry #722 & #1748/Sweetbay Supermarket #1748/Winn-Dixie #2433/Future Aldi #2433
2100 W. Swann Ave, Tampa, FL
Opened on March 11, 1993 as Kash n' Karry #722, being the first full-service supermarket in the Hyde Park area until the addition of Publix stores 628 in 1998 and 1182 in 2008 (the former GreenWise Market), and was also one of their flagship stores (a status retained by Sweetbay and Winn-Dixie). Between 1996 and 1997, this location was expanded, which resulted in the addition of a liquor store. In 2004, it was announced that Delhaize America (now known as Ahold Delhaize) would convert all of the remaining Kash n' Karry stores into Sweetbay Supermarkets. This store and several others across Tampa were converted into that name in 2006, but what made this store unique is that it was reconstructed to make it look like one of their new-build stores at the time, with the remodel occuring between March and December of that year. In late 2013, the 72 remaining Sweetbay stores were sold to what was then known as Bi-Lo Holdings (the former parent company of what is now Aldi-owned Winn-Dixie). To mark the transition from Sweetbay #1748 to Winn-Dixie #2433, this location closed on April 5, 2014 and reopened on April 11, 2014. A major remodel occurred in early 2016 alongside the closure of the store's pharmacy and was completed on October 20th of that year, bringing this store into the newer prototypes that was initially seen at store #7 in Jacksonville. This location closed on October 20, 2024 (exactly 8 years after the most recent remodel was completed) in order to convert into Aldi #2433, which opens in 2025. However, unlike most Aldi locations, this one will have a liquor store, although relocated.
The exterior seen here is from the first exterior remodel in 2006 from Sweetbay Supermarket, and was painted red as a result of Winn-Dixie's 2016 remodel.
Now this is a first for me: A Winn-Dixie grocery store that offers delivery and catering!
You might think that Winn-Dixie stores are stuck in a time warp, but this store certainly looks more modern! Let's head inside!
Here is one of the welcome signs in the store, this one adds local flair by including black and white images of Tampa, Florida.
And the rather basic welcome sign on the other side of the wall.
"This is a Winn-Dixie?!"
Newly updated floors, interiors, and ceilings makes the other stores look like something from the 80s and 90s!
Turning around 180 degrees, we can see the floral department that is next to customer service.
This is "The Kitchen", Winn-Dixie's name for the store's prepared foods section.
Located next to the deli, is Winn-Dixie's coffee bar. This photo was taken during my first visit to the store in 2017, and sometime later in the 2010s or early 2020s, the coffee bar became empty.
I do not have a confirmed layout from the Kash n' Karry days, but the current location of the bakery might have been the pharmacy.
Seafood is the first department that is located in the back of the store.
Immediately located after seafood, is the store's meat counter and service window.
Specialty cheeses are located in this section of the store.
Aisles 1 to 3 are home to organic products as indicated by the Naturally Better sign on top.
Now to the first marked aisle in the store, which is aisle 4.
Here is aisle 6. You might notice that deli sign located in the back, that section is home to deli meats and cheeses. The actual deli (or prepared foods) is located in The Kitchen.
Aisle 7.
Dairy is located at the back end of aisle 11, and transitions over to the back wall. The other side of dairy is home to milk products.
The spotlights, polished floors, and newly updated refrigerated cases make this a modern Winn-Dixie!
Pictured here is aisle 11, which is the last aisle in the store.
Here was the store's health and beauty section.
Looking towards the checkouts.
Thank you for shopping at Winn-Dixie #2433, although the letter T in thank you is out of frame to the left.
If you look closely, you can see the liquor store and its entrance.
The primary exit for the main store and the secondary entrance for the liquor store.
Here is the road sign facing Swann Avenue, which is original to this store's days as a Kash n' Karry.
And now to a nearby CVS drugstore...

Fantastic looking Winn-Dixie! I love how the signage isn't as basic as other Down Down remodels; there are different patterns and textures at the kitchen, bakery, and coffee counters, and even the regular department signs have red corrugated metal backgrounds instead of the usual simple red paint. Looks great!
